Sharon Martin, M.A., PsyD.

Who I am

The spiritual life is composed of moments.

I have always valued deep, meaningful experiences, my own and others. My career path led me to complete a master's degree and to teach literature. A later change of career path led to being a psychologist with an academic doctorate and additional training in transpersonal psychologies, becoming a teacher in both fields as well as a practicing therapist. Most recently, I have earned a certificate to practice as a Jungian-based spiritual director.

I prefer to call it guidance as that fits my personality and purpose. I'm not very directive but I can guide.

I value your spiritual history and path, your deep experiences, your questions. I want to help you find your ways of exploring and of grounding these transformative moments into you dally life.

My History

The spiritual life is composed of moments.

I grew up "unchurched," however, my personal experiences since childhood led me to explore broadly and deeply, incorporating religious and non religious spiritual practices. I have "loved learning and hated schools" as my high school mentor pronounced, which continued into my first career where I "loved teaching and hated school systems." I love to do deep dive studies into topics I am passionate about and to share what I learn with anyone interested.

Some of these passions are not of interest to a lot of people, I must say. And I would guess that has been your experience as well at times. As your spiritual guide, I will listen with rapt openness when you speak of your passions or when you ask the inevitable questions that arise from them

My Perspective

The spiritual life is composed of moments.

While these moments can be fleeting, they can be deep and transformative. I have learned to value these moments in myself and others. My life has been devoted to deepening them by intending to live in accord with them. This has not led me to entering religious life per se, though I did consider it at one moment in my life.

We all have had our challenges on our spiritual paths. Often, these challenges knock us off the path, and there are times in life when they must take a back seat as we manage how we will live our daily lives. Trauma, of course, interferes, though it can lead us back to our spiritual questions as well. Good times such as new academic ventures, careers, relationships, children can limit the time we have to explore our moments. They may gift us with these moments. The birth of my sons, for example, were rich with moments of depth and meaning. The total attention to infant care precludes attending to those moments as we might wish.

Whether you are beginning your spiritual path, returning to it, wanting to deepen an active path, I will value your moments. And I will work with you to help you find your own way to explore, deepen, and manifest the richness of these moments into your daily life.
